Difficult Subordinates

The crucial point of leadership is figuring out where to go from where you are now. While you may know where you want to go, employees won’t see that unless you actively communicate it with them. Remember, these traits aren’t just things you need to have, they are things you need to actively display to those around you. You need to portray your leadership charisma, you need to inspire them, you need to lead them well.

Difficult subordinates do exist at workplace. Difficult subordinates come in every variety and no workplace is without them. How difficult a subordinate is for you to deal with depends on your self-esteem, your self-confidence and your professional courage. Dealing with difficult subordinate is easier when the person behavior affects more than one person. Dealing with difficult subordinate is much tougher when the person attacks you or undermines your professional credibility. Difficult subordinates have one thing in common. You must address them. No matter the type of difficult situation in which you find yourself, dealing with difficult subordinate or situation is a must.

Can you recall the last time you had to deal with a negative or difficult subordinate at workplace? Or the last time, someone said something with the intention of hurting you? How did you handle it? What was the result? What can you do in the future to get through these situations with peace and grace? Dealing with difficult, demanding and rough co-workers or subordinates at workplace is not something new. When dealing with such situations, some tends to react with harsh and abusive words whilst some tends to keep quiet and suffer in silence. One thing in common is such difficult behaviors need to be addressed professionally and immediately.

If you really want to make the best out of your subordinates, you have to be good at leveraging the amazing talents of all your subordinates. One of the best ways is to unlock their hidden potential by supporting, guiding and coaching them to realize what is possible. Show them! A manager’s role is to deliver success. And not just in the results in profit, it’s more. Your subordinates expect you to do what’s expected of you. They want you to lead from the front and show you’re in charge.
